     Mediation is a process in which the parties negotiate a resolution to a dispute, utilizing a trained mediator to facilitate the negotiation process.
    
     Arbitration is a process in which  the parties agree to present the facts of a dispute to an arbitrator, who makes a binding decision to resolve the matter.
