Equine practice is unique in the law. Effective representation requires that a lawyer have a thorough knowledge of tort, contract and administrative practice. Perhaps, more important, however, an equine practitioner must understand the "language" that is specific to the horse industry as well as the specialized trade practices that are often unfamiliar to persons who are not regularly involved in the horse business.

William Dykeman was a founding member of the Equine Law Section of the Kentucky Bar Association and was elected and served as its Section Chair. In addition to presenting at seminars related to the law of the horse, Bill has counseled, litigated and mediated equine issues for clients in several states.

As a horse owner and member of a family that has been involved in the thoroughbred industry for many years, Bill is uniquely suited to apply his practical knowledge and legal expertise to the resolution of equine-related controversies.

Anyone participating in the buying or selling of any interest in horses which exceeds $10,000 should be aware of recent legislation passed by the Kentucky General Assembly. Certain writings and disclosures are now required in order to constitute a lawful transaction in Kentucky.
